The way digital services are created is moving fast. Not long ago everything was coded by hand. Then the industry shifted into the era of GPT tools, where humans and AI shared the workload. Now we are entering a new stage where AI agents can produce complete digital solutions on their own.
A closer look at agentic coding
AI agents differ from earlier tools because they can work independently. An agent can write code on its own while developers stay focused on design, architecture, and overall direction. Many software projects already rely on several agents with clear roles. One might review code while another works directly inside the development environment and handles implementation.
There is no real limit to how many agents we might use in the future. Some could specialize in security, others in accessibility or performance. Together they form what is often called an agent swarm, a virtual team guided by a central orchestrator agent.
Today it is already possible to complete entire projects with agents without a single line of human written code. Agents handle both the coding and the first rounds of review, and a developer verifies the final output. We expect to see much more agent swarm coding, where one coordinating agent organizes the others and keeps the work moving. Since agents can operate around the clock, the pace of development changes completely.
Driving new levels of productivity
At theloop, we have already seen real results. In a recent project, AI produced roughly 10,000 lines of working code in just six weeks. The quality remained high, and quality assurance can now be automated to a much larger degree.
This approach also brings flexibility. When AI agents integrate with third party systems, the entire development flow becomes more adaptive. The impact reaches beyond coding. Planning, research, UX design, and prototyping can all move at double the speed.
Exploring agentic coding calls for curiosity and a willingness to rethink old habits. Some organizations will face restrictions from internal policies or industry rules. Data security remains essential. Still, the direction is clear. As AI grows more capable, the opportunities to reshape how we build digital solutions expand.
A new way forward for software development
We are living through the biggest shift the industry has seen in more than twenty years. It is changing software development in two major ways.
First, we are moving toward a future where AI agents write all code. Humans return to what development work is really about, which is helping customers solve real problems.
Second, speed and productivity will rise sharply. AI will never be perfect, but the potential gains are significant.
Developers are not becoming less important. Their work is evolving. What will matter most is vision, experience, and the ability to understand customers. As daily tasks become more consultative, skills in strategy, communication, and business grow in importance.
Value creation will shift from manual coding to the insight and creativity behind how we guide these systems. Adapting to this change requires a mindset that is open to new approaches.
At theloop, we are excited to see where this transformation leads. In the next part of this series, we will explore how agentic coding is reshaping what it means to be a developer. If you want to discuss how theloop and AI agents can support your next project, feel free to reach out.
